Stephen M. Twigg
Professor Stephen Twigg, MBBS(Hons-I), PhD(Syd), FRACP, is medical Head of the Dept of Endocrinology, and the Diabetes High Risk Foot Services, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH), plus Kellion Professor of Endocrinology, Stan Clark Chair in Diabetes, in Sydney Medical School and the Charles Perkins Centre, the University of Sydney. As a physician-scientist and an educationalist his program of research since 1995 has been dedicated to preventing, and managing end-organ complications in diabetes, including foot disease in diabetes. Steve’s main translational interest is how diabetes causes tissue damage with loss of function, and ways this can be addressed to improve clinical outcomes. He has published more than 160 articles in peer-reviewed journals, mainly in translational research in diabetes and its diabetes complications, and holds international and national competitive grant funding in diabetes, currently supervising 5 PhD students. His H-factor is 47, with 6,800+ citations. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Diabetes and its Complications and a past-President of the Australian Diabetes Society. He is course convenor of the international Masters of Metabolic Health at the University of Sydney, and has delivered national and international presentations in diabetes, including at the IDF World Global Congress, the ADA Annual Scientific sessions, and in many countries in Asia. He has recently commenced as Chair of the Australian Diabetes Foot Network of the National Association of Diabetes Centres. His presentations will focus on key aspects of multidisciplinary diabetes foot care, including processes in standardising high risk foot care delivery across Australia.
